Information Systems - Systems Assurance Manager - February to October 1988

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creating, defining, and managing the Systems Assurance function of Information Systems,  recruiting a team of four staff with a budget of £300,000 p.a., to ensure that:

    • Technology strategies were developed and implemented  in line with the needs of the business;

    • Systems were specified, developed, documented, and operated to the corporate standards and adopted methodology (Arthur Andersen's Method/1);

    •  Systems were developed within budget and timescale and performed to the users’ requirements;

    • Systems were developed, maintained, and operated in a secure environment.

  • Designing, maintaining, and enhancing Information Systems standards and Quality Assurance procedures.

  • Creating a 'Help Desk' facility for the customisation and interpretation of Method/1.

  • Training Information Systems staff in standards and Method/1.

  • Establishing a 'Quality Culture' within Information Systems.

  • Specifying, implementing, and monitoring access control to all systems.

  • Recruiting, training, developing and managing Systems Assurance staff.

 

Internal Audit - Business Audit Manager - October 1988 to April 1989

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing the Head Office and Group Subsidiaries function of Internal Audit to ensure:

    • The effectiveness of internal controls (including management control);

    • The accuracy and completeness of accounting records;

    • The efficiency of administrative procedures;

    • The security of assets and investments;

    • Adherence to company policies and procedures and compliance with statutory requirements.

  • Increasing the use of Computer Assisted Audit Techniques (CAATs).

  • Providing specialised computer and operational audit training to appropriate staff.

  • Creating a Corporate Data Security Strategy.

  • Specifying internal control requirements for software developments.

  • Providing a consultancy service to management and staff.

  • Liaising with Standard Chartered Group Inspection on the audit of worldwide systems implemented within the Chartered Trust Group.
